Heybike Mars Folding E-Bike: Your All-Terrain Companion

Heybike is a relative newcomer to the electric bike world being founded in 2021 and headquartered in Schweinfurt, Germany with a US office now in Denver.

Heybikes story is a somewhat familiar one, the company started out in a small garage and in a fairly short time found itself operating out of an international store. As the company grew so did its quality line of electric bikes. Heybike now offers over 40 models of electric bikes and one of those is the Mars Folding All Terrain Electric Bike.

For the price, the Heybike Mars Folding E-Bike is good value for the money. The Mars is a bit big for a folding bike and it weighs in at 70 lbs with battery, the handlebars and seat are adjustable, and the fat tires on the Mars really smooth out the ride because the suspension on the bike isn’t terribly robust but does a decent job.

The big 23″ x 4″ puncture-resistant tires handle the off-road well, however, even though these are supposed to be puncture resistant we have heard of other Mars owners having to have dealt with flats using these tires so it does happen no matter what kind of tires so just always be prepared just in case.

The Mars is easy to fold with hinge points on the frame and the handlebars right where you would expect them to be for this type of folding bike design. When folded however, the bike is a bit awkward to pick up and carry but it does have a handle close to the center point of the bike which does make carrying the bike a bit easier even when the bike isn’t folded down,

The battery that comes with this bike is fairly easy to remove, you can fold the seat forward and pull the battery up and out. The battery takes about 6 – 7 hours to charge, the bike is also equipped with a front headlight and rear tail/brake light.

The 48V 12.5 Ah battery offers decent range, the manufacturer claims you can get up to 48 miles max range but that would be under ideal conditions, a more realistic number is in the 20 – 30 mile range but again this all depends on several factors like rider size and weight, terrain, weather and so on.

The bike is quite comfortable to ride as the bike’s design ensures you are riding in an upright position with the handlebars also being positioned high on the bike, the Mars is a pedal assist and throttle-only bike, and the bike comes with a 3-level pedal assist. The LCD display is pretty standard and kind of small but gives you everything you need so it does get the job done, with motor power only the bike will get up to 20mph on paved flat ground.

The Mars is equipped with the Shimano 7-speed gearing system which is what you see on most similar-style bikes and is versatile enough to satisfy most riders and riding conditions. The front and rear mechanical disc brakes are average but good enough to get the bike stopped at the speeds this bike travels at, we do however, prefer hydraulic disc brakes simply because they provide a lot more braking power.

The front fork on the Mars offers 80mm of travel which works reasonably well and has a lock-out feature if you choose not to have the fork functioning and the seat post has some limited suspension as well, the bike does come with a rear cargo rack which adds to the bike’s versatility.

The Heybike Mars handles hills, trails, and rough terrain reasonably well but in all honesty, this is not a mountain or trail bike it is what it is, it’s much more suited for commuting through the city or leisurely rides around the neighborhood or folding it up and taking it with you in your car or SUV or on an RV adventure where you could ride it around the RV park, campground or trails.

Get Ready To Start Riding

The Mars is a good quality reasonably priced electric bike that is comfortable to ride, the big 23″ x 4″ fat tires are the feature that stands out the most since they provide good grip and stability and do a good job of smoothing out the bumps, and the bike offers a rather impressive 330lb maximum load capacity.

The Mars is easy to fold and the locking mechanisms shouldn’t give you any cause for concern, they are sturdy and reliable. The Mars is big for a folding bike and is a bit heavier than others which means you will need to actually ride this bike to get the most out of it and by ride, we mean you will be doing some pedaling but isn’t that what riding any bike is supposed to be about?

All-in-all the Heybike Mars Folding All-Terrain Electric Bike provides plenty of power to get you where you want to go, it is fun to ride and can handle most types of terrain from city streets to trails and moderately steep hills all with relative ease.

And like we mentioned earlier, you can fold it up and put in your car, SUV, or take it with on your next RV adventure, and don’t forget, this bike is also ideal for people who live in an apartment since it can be folded down it won’t take up much space making it easy to store.
