Commute In Comfort: VELOWAVE Step-Through E-Bike Review

VELOWAVE Rover Step-Through Electric Commuter Bike Review

We usually like to start with a paragraph or two about the company and the people behind the brand but in this case, digging up some info on Velowave the company was a little more challenging. In future reviews, we do hope to be adding some more info about Velowave.

We do know that the team behind Velowave has been involved in the bicycle industry for many years, they are all outdoor enthusiasts and love anything to do with bikes. Research and development of electric bikes that can be ridden by anyone is at the top of Velowaves list of priorities and building quality products that are reasonably priced is definitely their focus.

Another interesting thing that we were able to find out about Velowave is that they are partnered with One Tree Planted which works with businesses and corporations to help restore forests, create habitat for biodiversity, and in general, make a positive social impact all over the planet.

One of Velowave’s best-selling bikes is their Rover Step-Through Fat Tire Electric Commuter Bike. This electric bike features a very robust reinforced frame and huge 26″ x 4″ fat tires that can handle any type of terrain you choose to ride on such as mountain trails, sand, and snow. This bike is also ideal for commuting, the sweep-back upright design of the handlebars allows for a more upright riding position making this electric bike very comfortable to ride and the step-through design makes it easy to get on and off which is perfect for anyone with mobility issues.

The Rover is equipped with a Bafang 750W geared rear hub motor which provides plenty of power and torque that will get you up and over any kind of terrain with ease.

Batteries are the lifeblood of any electric bike. Velowave very obviously knows this and has chosen a removable 48V 15Ah LG lithium battery to power the Rover. This battery provides a good range of up to 55 miles in ideal conditions, comes with a power lock that improves safety, and is nicely hidden in the frame giving the bike a more traditional look. The battery is sufficient and gets the job done but for a bike this big a 17.5 Ah or 20Ah battery would make things a little more interesting.

The Rover comes with a decent LCD display, this isn’t the biggest LCD display there is but does provide good readability and has everything you need like battery power consumption, mileage, speed data, and pedal assist level.

The saddle that comes with the Rover is comfortable thanks to its rather wide design and the wide handlebar design which is similar to that of many BMX bikes offers the rider a stable, more upright riding position which helps to reduce fatigue. Another feature of the Rover is the high-quality front fork suspension system that really helps make this bike comfortable to ride by smoothing out any bumps you might encounter while on your ride.

The Logan hydraulic front and rear disc brakes are what get this bike stopped, they are smooth and effective providing strong braking power, and provide the kind of safety you would expect from a quality electric bike like the Rover.

The Rover uses the Shimano Tourney 7-Speed Derailleur System. Even though this is an entry-level system that you see on a wide variety of electric bikes this system offers enough versatility to satisfy most riders. Cable management on the Rover is clean and everything is nicely hidden within the frame. The Rover also comes with a good quality 48V 10W LED front light that is surprisingly bright.

The Rover shows up at your house very well-packaged and protected, assembly is fairly straightforward and Velowave even provides you with an assembly video that makes things easier. The tires on the Rover are huge 26″ x 4″ Kenda Krusade fat tires that have good tread and provide grip on any type of terrain and because these tires are so big they also help smooth out your ride.

The Velowave Step-Through Electric Commuter Bike is a well-built, easy-to-ride electric bike that is reasonably priced and can accommodate different rider sizes. The Rover is classified as a commuter bike but can be ridden in almost any condition and can handle most types of terrain.

The components on this bike are all good quality and work as advertised. The gear shift system on the Rover is a little different from most others, it’s a Shimano 7-speed twist system, you twist and rotate forward and back, it’s actually a lot of fun and quite easy to get used to.

The Rover weighs in at 70.5 lbs so it’s not overly heavy but it is a fairly big bike overall. Even though the bike is big it is really easy to handle and offers the rider a very comfortable experience. The only thing that might be considered a bit of a negative thing with this bike is that the key that turns on the electrics needs to be left in the on position and in the bike in order for the bike’s electrical system to continue working.

Overall, the Velowave Rover Step-Through Electric Commuter Bike is a good-looking, powerful, easy-to-ride electric bike that is versatile enough to accommodate the needs of most electric bike riders. The low step-through design is ideal for anyone who might be struggling with mobility issues and the wide saddle and BMX-style handlebars really add to rider comfort.

The Velowave Rover Step-Through Electric Commuter Bike is good value for the money when you take into consideration the number of quality features this bike comes with, there are many bikes on the market that fall into the same category as the Rover but just can’t compete with this versatile and stylish fat tire beauty.
